All Kerala students to undergo Covid tests in K’taka after 38 positive tests

Authorities in Karnataka’s Hassan district are testing all Kerala students for Covid-19 because 38 nursing students returning from Kerala tested positive for the infection until Friday.

Authorities sealed off a PG hostel and quarantined 27 key contacts.

The 38 students from Kerala arrived in Karnataka to take nursing exams a week ago. Although they came with negative reports for Covid, authorities in the Hassan district performed Covid tests on the students.

Authorities received reports of 21 female students who tested positive on Thursday and reports of 17 students arrived on Friday. All students belong to the same college.

Health officials immediately took action and sealed off the Nisarga Paying Guest Hostel. The 27 main contacts of 21 students who tested positive for Covid-19 have been quarantined.

Authorities are now subjecting all Kerala students to Covid tests. A large number of students had enrolled in nursing and other courses in the city of Hassan.

Meanwhile, people staged a protest outside the residence of Deputy Commissioner R. Girish for the unavailability of vaccines. Protesters claimed they had been waiting for more than a week for the first dose of the Covid vaccine.
