Dasara could have been better organised: Vishwanath
Mysore/Mysore: Recognizing that this year’s Dasara was grand, coming after 2 years of COVID pandemic, BJP MLC A.H. Vishwanath said that, however, the Dasara could have been better organized and managed, considering the huge influx of visitors.
Addressing a press conference at Jaladarshini Guest House here on Saturday, the MLC stressed the need to form an exclusive Dasara authority for better organization of the festivities in the future and to organize the Dasara exhibition throughout the year.
Regretting that local leaders were not given confidence in Dasara-related activities, he said he had experience of organizing Dasara for 5 years as a minister and MPs such as SA Ramdas, GT Devegowda and Tanveer Sait also had a lot of experience. But none of them were given confidence for the Dasara preparations and MP Pratap Simha also stayed away for much of it, he argued.
Highlighting the failings and mismanagement that allegedly occurred at some Dasara events, Vishwanath expressed concern over the way the Jumboo Savari procession was handled, with large numbers among the crowd venturing onto the procession route in several places even as the elephants paraded.
Coming strongly against the gaps and disorder that have prevailed at Dasara events, especially the Sports Meet, Kavi Goshti and Torchlight Parade, the MLC lamented the lack of encouragement from local actors, artists, artisans and musicians in cultural events.
Reiterating the need for the formation of the Dasara Authority, Vishwanath called for transparent auditing and presentation of Dasara accounts. Calling for a comprehensive review of Dasara preparations in the future, he suggested to the authorities a healthy commitment from local leaders to ensure a better Dasara, in which thousands of people from the state and the country participate in the 10-day festivities. .
