Gorakhpur: Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University has nurtured India’s educational tradition for decades, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday.
“Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University has nurtured Indian educational tradition like River Rapti for the past decades, and wherever I go in the world I am identified as a student of Gorakhpur University,” Singh said in his virtual speech at the university’s first alumni reunion.
“The Distinguished Alumni Award given to me by the university is like a ‘prasaad’ to me. For six years of my student life at the university, I was actively involved in student union politics,” said said Singh, adding that a reunion is an ideal stage, where one has the opportunity to meet his teachers and friends.
After independence, (the then UP Chief Minister) Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant had laid the foundation of the university and Mahant Digvijay Nath donated two colleges and later Gorakhpur University was was named after Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayay, he said.
He also remembered his teachers on that occasion, and the days spent at the university’s Gautam Buddh hostel. He also paid tribute to his doctoral guide, Professor LB Singh.
With Sunday being Labor Day, Singh said a country thrives when its workers are respected.
He also praised the Centre’s new education policy and said the policy encourages innovation and entrepreneurship.
