Hyderabad: Hostel manager detained over sexual harassment complaints of 7 underage boys
A 35-year-old hostel manager in Hyderabad was arrested on Sunday after seven students complained to police against him, alleging inappropriate touching, officials said on Monday.
Hayathnagar Police registered seven cases against him and charged him with criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Offenses Act sexual (Pocso).
Police said the accused joined as a manager a month ago. As he resided in the same household, he often approached students, targeted his victims and forced them to watch pornographic videos on his phone. They added that the defendant used to abuse children who slept alone by touching them and sleeping next to them.
In their complaints, the underage boys also told police that the accused caretaker would also force himself into the toilet while they were bathing. “In this way, the accused harassed seven underage students in the same hostel by scaring them and threatening not to reveal the matter to anyone,” Rachakonda police said in a note.
“But due to the accused’s repeated harassment, some students felt embarrassed and unable to bear the harassment and told their parents the whole ordeal, which caused the police to investigate. “, they added.
While the accused was arrested and brought before a local court, the police decided to take an initiative in all schools and colleges, as well as in homes, to raise awareness of good and bad contacts and let children know how to report cases of sexual harassment. for them.
The children are being sent to a psychologist for counseling to help them cope with the mental agony and bullying they face, police said.
