The Foster Falls Inn is almost ready to welcome guests. When the multi-million dollar renovations are completed early next year, it will have taken teams about two years to transform the old orphanage into a 10-room hostel.

When complete, the building, which is part of the New River Trail State Park, will serve as accommodation for visitors to the park and also a venue for weddings, celebrations and reunions.

“It’s about 85% complete,” said Sam Sweeney, park superintendent.

The hostel has a new roof, windows and a porch. Including the porch, the hotel has over 10,000 square feet of space. There are 10 rooms of different sizes for guests. The Honeymoon Suite is the largest room and features two gas fireplaces, a soaking tub, private access to a patio, and the hotel’s best view of the grounds.

Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, as well as a hall, living room, catering kitchen and meeting rooms. Sweeney said the Inn’s decor and feel will be modern, but with a nod to the building’s Victorian heritage.

Price Builders of Rocky Mount, Va., Began renovating the building in early 2020.

Now that construction is nearing completion, state officials will begin to search for a company to operate and manage the hostel. The state is accepting offers from dealers interested in operating the hostel until January 9, 2022.
