Maharashtra cabinet expansion: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is set to expand his cabinet tomorrow after 40 days of being sworn in following a dramatic stint leading to the resignation of former CM Uddhav Thackeray. Sources close to India TV have informed that rebel Shiv Sena MPs who had served under Thackeray are likely to be inducted into Shinde’s cabinet. The expansion finally comes nearly 40 days after Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis were sworn in as chief minister and deputy chief minister, respectively.
MPs from the Shinde faction said they would meet at the state government’s Sahyadri Guest House on Tuesday morning. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Raj Bhavan.
“We haven’t received any communication from the chief minister so far. We will have more clarity on this at tomorrow’s meeting,” said a rebel MP who was a member of Thackeray’s cabinet. Of the 55 MPs in Shiv Sena, 40 aligned with Shinde.The revolt led to the collapse of the Thackeray-led government in June.
Shinde was sworn in as CM on June 30 along with Fadnavis, who was sworn in as Deputy CM. A dozen ministers will be sworn in at Tuesday’s ceremony at Raj Bhavan in south Mumbai at 11 a.m., a close aide to Shinde said. The chief minister told reporters in Nanded on Monday night that the names of MPs who will be sworn in as ministers will be finalized by Monday night or Tuesday.

Meet at Fadnavis Residence
Top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders gathered at the Mumbai residence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the names of those likely to be inducted into the state cabinet on Tuesday. Apart from finalizing the names of new ministers who will swear in Raj Bhavan, BJP leaders are said to have discussed organizational appointments to be made ahead of crucial civic elections in Mumbai and other cities and the 2024 elections in Lok Saba.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said late Monday that he would extend his ministry for 40 days on August 9. Shinde was sworn in as CM on June 30 along with Fadnavis, who was sworn in as deputy CM.
“The expansion of the ministry is scheduled for tomorrow,” Shinde told reporters in Nanded in the Marathwada region.
A dozen ministers will be sworn in at Tuesday’s ceremony at Raj Bhavan in south Mumbai at 11 a.m., an aide to Shinde told PTI on condition of anonymity. The next round of expansion will come later, he added. Currently, Shinde and Fadnavis are the only two ministers in the 40-day government.
