Suenos is run by husband and wife team Neil and Teresa Jones.

Mr Jones said they hoped to build on this recognition.

She said: “We are absolutely delighted with this award.

“We now look forward to a busy and successful spring and summer season.

“We are the only five star guest house in Southend and the surrounding area, and we continue to strive to maintain our high standards for all of our future guests.”

Michael Davies, chairman of the Rayleigh Town Museum, which is run entirely by volunteers, said he feels really proud.

He said: “I was very happy but also surprised to be nominated for the award in the first place. -mail.

“We were in the small tourist attraction of the year category, but all the other finalists were professional and commercial organisations, whereas we are only a small group of volunteers. I am therefore proud to have been recognized in these awards.

“It makes it very special that we are all volunteers, especially since it was so unannounced, so to be highly commended, we were truly over the moon.”

The East of England Tourism Awards are an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and support businesses.

Once nominated, each attraction is visited by a “mystery shopper” who will pose as a visitor and write a report on their experience for the judges.
