Around 24 students from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Behjam in Lakhimpur Kheri district were reportedly locked on the roof of the school by two teachers to pressure district authorities to rescind their transfer orders, it was reported on Friday officials.

The incident happened Thursday evening. Officials and local police managed to bring the girls back to their hostel after several hours.

“Teachers used such tactics to pressure district authorities to rescind a transfer order to other Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya on disciplinary grounds,” said Laxmikant Pandey, head of education, on Friday. basic education of Lakhimpur Kheri, to the PTI news agency.

Mr Pandey and District Girls Education Coordinator Renu Srivastav were briefed on the incident by hostel manager Lalit Kumari. They rushed to the school and camped there for several hours.

Female local police personnel were also called and the matter was resolved, Mr Pandey said.

“An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of IPC Renu Srivastav against the two teachers Manorama Mishra and Goldi Katiyar,” Mr Pandey said.

A ministerial inquiry into the matter has also been ordered. A committee will submit the report within three days,” he said.

Mr Pandey added that strict action, including the termination of service contracts, would be taken against the teachers if they were found guilty in the investigation.
