HANOVER — Maynard House, an eight-room home for patients and families in Hanover, has temporarily closed due to COVID-19 surges, staffing issues and renovations, according to its Facebook page and a post on its answering machine.

A Sunday post on its Facebook page said the South Street nonprofit next to Howe Library will use the next few months to “complete some overdue renovations and reorganize”.

He asks people to come back in October to reopen the updates.

Telephone and email messages sent to Maynard House, formerly the Upper Valley Hostel, were not immediately returned.

A post posted in early July on the Maynard House Facebook page solicited applications for the position of Resident Director. Compensation for the position, which requires guest management, light housekeeping, volunteer coordination, and evening and weekend shifts, has been listed as full-time residence in an on-site studio apartment with no rent or public services.

The 40-year-old organization, which is funded by donations and guest fees, provides patients and their families with a place to stay during their medical treatment. As of 2018, the house operated on an annual budget of around $160,000 and served around 3,000 guests each year.
